2026 Porsche Cayenne EV Battery

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne EV Battery is an interesting design that uses LG Chem pouch cells and as such sticks with a modular based design.

The power electronics are arranged in an enclosure that is fixed to the top rear of the pack, a very traditional approach.

Metrics

  • Pack Energy Density
    • Gravimetric = 172.2 Wh/kg (declared)

Specifications

  • Energy
    • Usable ~ 108 kWh
    • Total = 113kWh (declared) 112.64 kWh (based on US EPA application nominal capacity and voltage)
    • Usable SoC Window = 95.9%
  • Nominal Voltage = 704 V
    • Maximum Voltage = 806 V
    • Minimum Voltage = 538 V
  • Nominal Capacity = 160 Ah
  • Peak Power ~ 360 kW to ~ 940 kW (assuming ~90% efficiency)
    • Peak Motor Power = 325kW in the Cayenne Electric and 850kW in the Cayenne Turbo Electric
  • Pack Mass = 631 kg
  • Configuration = 192s 1 p

Structure

The pack frame is assembled from extruded aluminium sections that are bolted to the modules. What we see of the frame appears to be just a method of bridging the distance between the modules and the body sills.

The top centre spine cover appears to float above the cooling plates and hence our assumption is we are missing part of the battery case from the images that have been shared.

Charging

  • Peak Fast Charge Power = 390 kW
  • 10 to 80% SoC = 16 minutes
Porsche charge power versus SoC graph shows charge power ~340kW initially with a slow ramp up to 390kW around 50% SoC and a drop back to ~270kW and a ramp down up to 70%. A steep ramp down then to ~140kW at 80% SoC.

Cooling

Liquid cooling plates are arranged on the top and bottom of each module.

The cells appear to interface directly via Thermal Interface Material (TIM) with each plate (see module image below).

Cooling on both long edges of each cell will halve the top to bottom temperature delta in a cell.

However, the cooling enters the pack on the right hand side and exits on the left hand side. This is a significant distance and will result in a cooling delta temperature across the battery pack.

Modules

The pack consists of 6 large modules, but the cells in each module are arranged in 4 groups of 8 cells. In the image below you can see an aluminium plate between two of these groups of 8 cells.

  • Number of Modules = 6
  • Number of Cells/module = 32

Cell

The cells consist of a graphite-silicon anode and a nickel-manganese-cobalt-aluminium cathode (NMCA). The high nickel content of 86 per cent ensures maximum energy density, while silicon in the anode significantly enhances the fast-charging capability. Aluminium increases the rigidity of the cell structure. The result: seven per cent higher energy density compared to the current Taycan battery, while also increasing charging efficiency.

  • Chemistry = NMCA
  • Format = Pouch
  • Nominal
    • Voltage = 3.67 V
    • Capacity 160 Ah
    • Energy = 586.7 Wh

Interesting to compare this to the BMW iX3 Neue Klasse with its 4695 cell to pack design.
