Lithium-Ion Traction Battery Pack and System for Electric Vehicles: Part 2 — High Energy Applications
GB/T 31467.2-2015 specifies the test methods and performance requirements for lithium-ion traction battery packs and systems used in high-energy electric vehicle applications, primarily Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) where energy storage capacity and range are the primary design drivers. It forms Part 2 of the GB/T 31467 series and is the Chinese national adaptation of ISO 12405-2:2012. The standard was implemented on 1 October 2015 alongside Part 1.

Current edition: GB/T 31467.2-2015
Part of series: GB/T 31467 series (Parts 1, 2, and 3)
Status: Recommended (GB/T prefix) — voluntary but widely referenced for MIIT vehicle type approval
Based on: ISO 12405-2:2012 (High energy applications), adapted for Chinese EV market conditions
Scope
GB/T 31467.2 applies to lithium-ion traction battery packs and systems installed in road electric vehicles designed for high-energy applications, including:
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): pure electric passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and delivery vehicles where electric range is the primary requirement
- Extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs): vehicles with a large traction battery pack as the primary energy source
Key Test Items
- Rated capacity and energy: energy and capacity measurement at C/3 and 1C discharge rates at 25°C
- Energy efficiency: round-trip charge/discharge energy efficiency at defined conditions
- Cold cranking performance: available power at -18°C following cold soak — critical for BEV winter range
- High-temperature performance: capacity retention and charge acceptance at 45°C and 55°C
- Low-temperature capacity: discharge capacity retention at -20°C — minimum 70% of rated capacity
- Standard cycle life: charge/discharge cycling at 25°C to 80% capacity retention; additional operational cycle life using city drive-cycle profiles for passenger BEV and commercial BEV
- Storage: capacity retention and recovery after 28 days storage at 40°C and 100% SOC
- Internal resistance: measurement at 50% SOC and 25°C
Differences from Part 1
Where Part 1 (high-power) focuses on peak power availability at many SOC points, Part 2 (high-energy) emphasises total energy throughput, range-representative cycle profiles, and cold weather energy retention — reflecting the different duty cycle of a BEV versus an HEV.
