The Current Interrupt Device CID activation pressure is important to understand as this will be the internal cell pressure at which the electrical connection will be opened. Hence the cell will then be electrically disconnected from the external circuit.

The pressure increase inside the cell is due to gas formation caused by decomposition reactions which in itself is due to abuse conditions such as over-charge, over-discharge or internal shorting of the cell.
| Cell | CID activation pressure [MPA @22°C] | CID activation pressure [MPA @100°C] |
|---|---|---|
| MTI 18650 | 1.058 ± 0.053 | 0.920 ± 0.076 |
| LG MJ1 | 1.293 ± 0.119 | 1.066 ± 0.068 |
| K2 18650E | 0.997 ± 0.292 | 0.834 ± 0.057 |
| LG M36 | 1.393 ± 0.113 | 1.083 ± 0.077 |
