Nuvvon recently showed their solid state 5Ah SiC NMC cell cycling continuously at 3C/5C for 1000 cycles full DOD to 90% SOC. Then incredible sub-zero temperature performance discharging down to -50°C with over 50% capacity and charging at -40°C.
Here is the final post on these 5Ah Silicon cells – comparing cycle performance using 10psi external pressure versus zero external pressure. The zero pressure graph shows 450 cycles so far, closely following the 10psi trace which has passed 1,000 cycles to 90% SOH.

The photo shows the test setup without any clamping fixture. The cell is designed for 10C continuous discharge full DOD and 30C pulse discharge. This test was in a chamber at 25°C.

There is no gassing and the proprietary solid polymer electrolyte accommodates expansion / contraction of the cell throughout the cycle life. Less that 7% total expansion from zero to 100% charge including swelling comparing first cycles to end of life cycles.

Nuvvon develops solid polymer electrolytes to enhance the performance and safety of next-generation anodes, including silicon. Continuously improving electrochemical performance means evaluating new formulas and additives to stabilize the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), expand the electrochemical stability window, improve ultra-low-temperature performance, and maintain performance at elevated temperatures.
Next up will be data on Nuvvon’s SiC LCO high voltage cells – another breakthrough pushing the limits on Voltage and VED for Consumer Electronics.
