In 2019 the median 10-80% charge time for BEV road cars was 39 minutes. In 2026 that median has fallen to 22 minutes. The fastest quoted pack in our database is 6.5 minutes and that is the 3rd generation of CATL Shenxing pack.

Over this timeframe there has been a steady increase in the peak charge rate, until 2026 when the 90th percentile shows a significant uptick. However, when you look at the median amongst all of the battery packs in the database that increase is from 1.4C in 2019 to 2.7C in 2026. This all aligns well with the significant push by BYD and CATL around charge rate for their latest products.

The ten fastest 10-80% charge times in the database are perhaps not surprising.

Fast charging is an important criteria for a lot of EV drivers, but at these peak charge power levels it will take time for the charging infrastructure to fully catch up.
