2026 Tesla Semi Battery

More images are now available of the 2026 Tesla Semi Battery and hence we thought we should create an update from the original 2022 Tesla Semi Specifications.

SpecStandard RangeLong Range
Range~325 mi~500 mi
Energy Consumption1.7 kWh/mi1.7 kWh/mi
Fast ChargingUp to 60% in 30mUp to 60% in 30m
Charge TypeMCS 3.2MCS 3.2
Powertrain3 independent motors on rear axles3 independent motors on rear axles
Drive PowerUp to 800kWUp to 800kW

From the numbers announced [2] we get the usable energy:

  • 1.7 kWh/mile and 325 mile range => 552.5 kWh usable
  • 1.7 kWh/mile and 500 mile range => 850 kWh usable

The largest battery pack is made up of 9 battery packs in parallel. This then shows that the standard range battery would be 6 of the battery packs in parallel. Each of the individual sub-packs having ~94kWh usable and total capacity would be ~100kWh.

In the factory tour video [1] we see the 9 packs being stuffed up between the frames and either side of the main rails.
Here the battery pack is shown with the lifting frame still in place.

One of the sub-packs shown with the control/power electronics in a cast housing bolted to the side of the battery pack.

These packs use the 4680 cell [3].

  1. Any guesswork around cell configuration on the inside of the Tesla Semi Gen2 packs?
    I will do the first round:
    Hypothesis 1:
    3 parallel packs with 240s14p -> 3360 cells per pack divided into 4 vertical stacks with 8 cell ‘trays’ in each
    3 packs X 3360 cells X 24.7 Ah X 3.7 V = 921 kWh installed energy
    With useable energy = 850 kWh (500 mi range X 1.7 mi/kWh) we get a Soc Window of about 92.3%,
    Every ‘stack’ would have 840 cells each. Every ‘tray’ would have 7×15=105 cells each.
    Any Thoughts? Should I put it on Polymarket?
