When designing a battery pack you will always be asked to benchmark it. For this there are a number of key metrics:
- Safety
- Wh/kg – Pack Gravimetric Energy Density
- Wh/litre
- W/kg
- Ragone Plot – Power density vs Energy Density
- W/litre
- $/kWh
- Cell to Pack mass ratio
- Cell to Pack volume ratio
- Durability – % of pack capacity available after 10 years

A first look at pack metrics versus application and what is important and what is not.
5 = important
1 = not important

Benchmarks
When looking at designing a battery pack it is a good idea to look at the other designs that are out there on the market.
